The huge battleship Leviathan appears in multiple Sonic Wings games. It is named for a Biblical sea monster mentioned several times in the Old Testament and once in the apocryphal book of Enoch I. The book of Isaiah describes Leviathan as a snake, and the book of Job declares "If you put one hand on him, you will never forget the battle. And you will never do it again! There is no hope of defeating him. Just seeing him overwhelms people." Although Leviathan is referred to as male here, Enoch I describes her as "a female monster named Leviathan, to dwell in the abysses of the ocean over the fountains of the waters."
Leviathan is so large it does not fit on one screen; the screen scrolls horizontally to allow the player to attack all three of its vulnerable areas: a set of small guns near starboard, turrets in the middle of the ship, and the heart of the craft between the two. Leviathan also launches five helicopters from its deck, but these are the least of the player's concerns!
Stage: Mato Grosso
In an ironic twist, the water-going Leviathan is the boss of land-locked Mato Grosso in the middle of South America. It appears to be undergoing repairs and moves back and forth on a conveyor belt, shooting at the player. It does not launch helicopters as in SW2, however.
Stage: Pacific Ocean
Roaming the waters of the Antarctic, the Leviathan is one large battleship. Its capabilities are unmatched by any naval vessel. Air attacks are its weakness, but beware of its massive deck guns.
-Aerofighters Assault English game manual
The battleship Leviathan is the second boss encountered in Assault. Either its health bar must be depleted twice, or there are actually two Leviathans in this stage. Leviathan can also submerge, making it tough to strike, or even find, at times. However, during submerge, it still can be attacked using either Hien or Mao Mao's Ninja Beam.
